Any time there are festivities, people tend to cut loose, which can have some pretty serious consequences for their oral health.

That said, having fun shouldn’t have to get in the way of caring for your teeth. If you want to know what you can do to enjoy yourself and keep your smile in good shape, here are some tips that may be able to help you.

St. Patrick’s Day

This is arguably the biggest holiday of the month, and if there’s one thing that it’s known for, it’s beer. The green beer that’s often served on St. Patrick’s Day, and the dark stouts that are also popular, can leave pigments behind that can leave stains on your teeth.

These pigments can attach themselves to plaque deposits, which means that it may be a good idea to brush both before and after drinking.

Fat Tuesday

Fat Tuesday is a massive celebration before a lot of fasting and discipline, and for many people, the day doesn’t feel complete without paczkis.

As you can imagine, these wads of sugar and dough aren’t necessarily the best for your teeth. They’re even worse if they have gooey fillings that can coat your teeth. If you want to keep your smile shining, you might want to go for paczkis without filling and brush thoroughly afterward. You may even consider giving up sugary snacks for Lent!

Pi Day

Some of your nerdier friends may celebrate this holiday, and some math obsessives even go all out! March 14 (3.14) is Pi Day, which is a celebration of everything both math and pastry. Many people celebrate by baking a pie, which naturally can cause problems for your oral health.

Feel free to indulge, but follow up with solid dental hygiene. Finish off the day by brushing and flossing thoroughly, and you should be just fine!

About Our Practice

At Crossroads Family Dentistry, our primary goal is to make every aspect of your dental care as stress-free as possible.
